Canadians A skate past Hawks 5-2 Published April 3, 2008 By John E. Banks Tinker Public Affairs TINKER AIR FORCE BASE -- The Tinker Hawks I ice hockey team ran into a buzz saw, Canadians A, and fell 5-2 at the Artic Ice Centre on March 30 in Oklahoma City Adult Hockey League Division II action. The Canadians A were short-handed as they had some injuries and other players missing due to military obligations. The Canadians got on the board early as forward Bill Chirch intercepted an errant Hawks clearing pass and then rifled a blistering slap shot over left shoulder of Hawks goaltender Brad Poarch giving his team an early 1-0 lead. The Canadians kept up the pressure and were rewarded when forward Oliver Lefrncois skated in on the left hand side of the ice and scored on a slick wrist shot past Poarch making the score 2-0. "Guys, we are all over the ice, they are playing much better positional hockey and skating better than we are. We need to open the ice and take advantage because they have limited players," said Guy Wisenbach, defensemen for the Hawks. The Canadians capitalized on their fist period success during a power play early in the second period. Forward Jamie Rideout received a cross-ice pass from Lefrncois and he then fired a blistering slap shot passed Poarch making the score 3-0. The Hawks got on the score sheet as Wisenbach skated the length of the ice and performed a triple deke and lifted a back hand shot through the five-hole past Canadians net minder Mark Servant cutting the lead to 3-1. "We played a lot better in that period and we had chances to score," said Wisenbach. The third period the Canadians put the game out of reach as forward Chris Horner redirected a pass from Chirch. The Hawks got a pretty goal from forward Andy Spivey as he received a quick pass from center James Behn from behind the net and directed it into the Canadians goal making the score 4-2 with tem minutes remaining in the contest. The Canadians rounded out the scoring late in the contest as Mark Keown sent a shot past Poarch at the 15:34 mark making the score 5-2. The players of the game were for the Canadians, Chirch who had a goal and an assist, while for the Hawks, Wisenbach who had a goal and was a stalwart on the defensive end for the Hawks. "I know we can play better than we showed tonight. We need to regroup and be ready to play our brand of hockey," said Behn
