Banks Tinker Public Affairs TINKER AIR FORCE BASE -- The bowlers of the 552nd Aircraft Maintenance Squadron scored a decisive 3298-3020 victory over the 72nd Operational Support Squadron March 19 at the Tinker Bowling Center. Dallas Thompson, 552nd AMXS bowler, said his team had to make up a 174-pin handicap disadvantage and they were hoping to capitalize on their recent success in the league. Bowlers Mike Cumella, Rick Stutzman and Thompson for the 552nd AMXS helped their team erase some of the 72nd OSS lead as they combined for five strikes in the opening two frames. This cut the advantage of the 72nd OSS to 309-254. The trio then put together another string of six total strikes through the seventh frame, cutting the 72nd OSS lead to711-641. The 72nd OSS tried to hold off the onslaught by the 552nd AMXS. Jerry Ealom threw strikes in the seventh and eighth frames, helping the 72nd OSS maintain its 808-803 lead. However, Thompson threw eight strikes in a row to end the game and the 552nd AMXS to captured game one 1067-941. "I was able to find my mark in the first game," said Thompson, who finished at 255. "It may have looked easy, but it definitely wasn't." In game two, the 552nd AMXS quintet -- Bradley Barnes, David Jackson, Cumella, Stutzman and Thompson -- combined for eight strikes in the first two frames to cut the 72nd OSS lead to 309-254. Charles Martin, 72nd OSS bowler, stopped the 552nd AMXS momentum as he rolled four consecutive strikes, giving his team a 584-543 lead. The 552nd AMXS took the lead in seventh frame and never looked back. The drive was led by Thompson, Jackson and Barnes, who combined for 16 strikes over the final four frames on the way to a convincing 1132-1011 victory. The third game had a different flow to it, especially from the 72nd OSS perspective. Will Chiaffino, Ealom and Charles Marting rolled three strikes apiece en route to an early 670-576 lead. Thompson led a comeback as he bowled seven strikes in a row through the eighth frame. This shrunk the 72nd OSS lead to 832-793. Thompson finished game three with a team-high nine strikes in a row. This performance, coupled with Cumella's 229 and Jackson's 211, propelled the 552nd AMXS to a 1099-1068 victory. "This was my best career series," said Thompson. "My previous best was 724 and tonight I was able to put three great games together and bowl a 755." The win gives the 552nd AMXS a 132.0-84.0 record, while the loss drops the 72nd OSS to 102.0-114.0.
