Cops Corner: Driving Safety Tip from 72nd Security Forces Published March 20, 2008 TINKER AIR FORCE BASE -- The 72nd Security Forces Squadron is concerned for the safety of all personnel living and working on Tinker AFB. The rules of the road are fully detailed in Air Force Instruction 31-204 and the base supplement. Specifically, the Security Forces would like to highlight the on-base speed limits. The Installation Commander, with the advice of traffic engineers, sets specific speed limits on base to prevent drivers from traveling at a rate that is unsafe. The basic speed limit on the base is 25 miles per hour unless otherwise posted. Two areas where the speed limit is different are parking lots, where the speed limit is 5 miles per hour, and base housing, where the speed limit is 15 miles per hour. Speeding in base housing is taken very seriously on Tinker AFB and violations have severe consequences. If you are cited for speeding in base housing your base driving privileges will be suspended one day for every one mile per hour you are traveling over the posted limit. The reason should be obvious for the penalty. Children have a right to a safe environment in and around their homes. Speeding can be prevented by departing early for your destination to give yourself extra time. Remember, when you are operating a motor vehicle you are taking everyone's safety in your hands and feet. Safe driving is everyone's responsibility and like the commercial says - "Just do it!". If you have any questions please feel free to contact the 72nd Security Forces Squadron, Police Services at 734-4433. Let's all watch out for our fellow Airmen here on Tinker AFB and be a good "Wingman".
