Lights, camera, sing! Do-Re-Me-Fa-So-La-Te-Do, get low, get low.
The Tinker Club will be the site for the very first Tinker Idol competition coming up April 4, 18 and 25. The show will be much like the popular television program, American Idol. All varieties of music will be included in the show including everything from country, top 40, rap, contemporary and even some of the classics. Judges will be on the scene to render their opinion, and just like the television show, the audience will have an opportunity to vote for their favorite performance on a ballot.
On April 4, contestants will sing for judges behind the scenes in hopes of being chosen to move on to the semi-finals to be held at 7 p.m. April 11.
At press time, there are 42 contestants signed up; however, the tryouts on April 4 are open to any others who wish to enter on a first come, first served basis. Judges will hear as many contestants as they can in the time allotted. Some special golden tickets will be handed out for instant qualifiers for the semi-finals.
In the semi-finals April 11, 20 contestants will sing one song each, keeping in mind that their friends and family may vote after the show. Contestants are encouraged to bring their support group to be on their side come voting time. On Monday, after the ballots have been counted, 10 contestants will receive the news they've been waiting to hear -- "You're going to the finals!"
The evening of the finals, April 25, will be tense and exciting as contestants gather at the club to primp and practice for the last few rounds. The show starts at 7 p.m. Each finalist will sing two songs to win over the judges and the audience. In the end, one person will be named "Tinker Idol" and will walk away with the $500 cash prize. Second and third places will win $300 and $200 respectively. The show starts at 7 p.m. so be sure to arrive early to show support.
Carlos Bassut, Business Operations Flight chief, said, "We would love to see this event surpass all of our expectations and become a popular annual event. Not only will this event give everyone an opportunity to showcase their talent, but it will also let Services showcase what we can do for Team Tinker."
There is still time to sign up for the first ever Tinker Idol competition and fulfill those dreams of becoming a superstar. For more information and to sign up, e-mail Maurice Smith at maurice.smith@tinker.af.mil. Contestants must be 18 years old to enter and must carry a valid Department of Defense ID.
