One Page at a Time reading program
The Air Force Youth Programs is offering "One Page at a Time," an incentive to encourage children ages 5 to 13 years old to read books and earn rewards. Children can earn incentives such as pens, journals, backpacks and a lunchbox, all paid for by the Air Force. The Tinker Youth Center is sponsoring the program through May. Children must register at the Youth Center and read books from the book list at www.afyouthprograms.com. Log sheets will be tallied each month for submission to the Headquarters point of contact. If your child is interested, call Lynnee Rose, the Tinker POC, or Cathy Unger, the school-age coordinator, at 734-7866. Registration will be open before and after school.
   Piano lessons
Tinker Youth Center is now offering piano lessons from area musician, Rachel McCarthy. Piano lessons are available on Friday afternoons or Saturday mornings at $15 per lesson. Discounted family rates are also available.
Enrolled students are required to attend a weekly 30-minute individual private lesson and a monthly 45-minute group lesson with other students. The group lesson is a time to practice performing for others and review concepts taught in the individual lessons.
Ms. McCarthy is a recent graduate from the University of Oklahoma with a dual master's degree in piano performance and musicology. She has extensive performing experience, more than seven years musical teaching experience, and she recently authored a 151-page thesis on Chilean folk music. Ms. McCarthy also works at the Tinker Chapel as the Catholic music director.
   Dance class sign-ups
The youth center is holding registration for fall dance classes in tap, ballet, jazz, hip hop and ballet/tap. Classes are open to dependents of active duty, retirees, Department of Defense civilians and contractors.
