Brigadier General Lori J. Robinson, 552nd Air Control Wing commander was announced as ACC's nominee for the 2008 Military Trailblazers Recognition/Women's History Month Award by General John D.W. Corley, Air Combat Command commander.
General Robinson earned this nomination due to her many accomplishments throughout her Air Force Career. She has managed to achieve many significant "firsts" during her time in the service.
General Robinson is the first female and first Air Battle Manager Commander for the 552nd ACW in E-3 history. She is responsible for one of the largest wings in Air Combat Command, which is composed of over 3,300 members and is responsible for a budget of 9.6 billion dollars.
Based on comments from various members of the 552nd ACW, it is highly evident that General Robinson has made a remarkable impression on the men and women she works with and leads on both a professional and personal level.
"General Robinson is devoted to her people and the organization. She has the ultimate service before self attitude whereby her model leadership has influenced thousands of Airmen and fostered their growth and warrior mentality," said Col. Joseph Rossacci, 552nd ACW vice commander.
She has the perfect balance of professionalism, leadership and warrior ethos according to Chief Master Sgt. James Foltz, 552nd ACW command chief. "The Airmen absolutely love her."
She shows her support not only for the Airmen, but also their families and makes people feel comfortable on a professional and personal level, said Chief Foltz. "She's an enlisted Airman's dream, because she cares and you know it."
Prior to commanding the wing, General Robinson was the first female to serve in several prominent positions including the Director of the House of Military Affairs Liaison Office, the AWACS Operations Group Commander, the 405th Air Expeditionary Wing vice commander, and the first female Weapons School Instructor.
While General Robinson is shown "rock star" treatment wherever she goes, she remains humble. "She has worked very hard to get where she is and she realizes where she began," said Chief Foltz. "She doesn't expect anything, yet at the same time she gives all she's got. Her natural leadership makes the Airmen want to work for her."
It is unanimous among those who know her that General Robinson is the perfect candidate for this award. As Colonel Rossacci can testify, "she is a trailblazer in the truest sense-the first one in and the last to leave."
