Normally we see the huge number of cases in Dec - early Jan and it's subsiding by Feb. However, it's just starting to peak across the country and is expected to go about another six weeks before finally dropping off. We still have a lot of Flu Mist (the live virus) available. Unfortunately, there are restrictions because it's a live virus. But most folks can still take it. We are out of the killed virus vaccine. Restrictions for Flu Mist: Must be age 5 - 49 years old. It's not licensed for 4 and younger or 50 and older. Cannot have a chronic disease, which will suppress the immune system - diabetes, chronic lung diseases, etc. Cannot have chronic heart disease. Pregnant women cannot get this vaccine because of the live virus. On aspirin therapy cannot get it. Anyone living with you with a chronic immune-suppressing disease, or pregnant. The Immunization Clinic hours are 7:15 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Patients can walk in and ask for the vaccine, they do not need an authorization for their medical provider.
