Several Air Force Materiel Command service members put their tent building skills to the test Jan. 28 at the Glenwood training area. The tent building was followed by practical application exercises, which incorporated new and old skills and training from last week's refresher course.
Jonny Conover, senior exercise evaluator with the 72nd Air Base Wing's Plans and Programs office, said, "This is a refresher course before deployment; the experience will teach Airmen how to put up a tent, which is something that is included in their Airmen's Manual."
For Airmen such as Airman 1st Class Bethany Grimm tent building was very familiar. Airman Grimm said she had done it "a lot." For others like Airman 1st Class Kathleen Gilfoil, it was her first time and she has yet to be deployed.
For the first portion of the morning the main tent that the group focused on building was the Single Pallet Expeditionary Kitchen.
Keith Roschal, Services Division education and training manager, said, "This isn't a new thing. The SPEKs have been around for almost four years and the kitchen can fit a single aircraft pallet." The groups will come together mid-February during Phase II to put all of the refresher courses to work.
