776th Maintenance Support Squadron deactivates;DLA Oklahoma City activated Published Jan. 24, 2008 Defense Logistics Agency Public Affairs TINKER AIR FORCE BASE -- A combined deactivation/activation ceremony will be held at 8 a.m. Thursday in the Tinker Club Ballroom. Brig. Gen. Judith Fedder, 76th Maintenance Wing commander, and Brig. Gen. Andrew Busch, Defense Supply Center Richmond commander, will preside at the joint ceremony. John Aguilar, director of the 776th Maintenance Support Group, and Elaine Dockray, 776th Maintenance Support Squadron chief and point person for the Oklahoma City Air Logistics Center transition, will officiate at the deactivation. General Busch and Lt. Col. Kelly Larson, commander of Defense Logistics Agency Oklahoma City, will participate in the activation. The Tinker Air Force Base Honor Guard will post the colors and participate in the ceremony. The Base Realignment and Closure Commission's 2005 decision called for the Department of Defense to reconfigure its supply, storage and distribution infrastructure into one integrated supply, storage and distribution provider: Defense Logistics Agency. The activation of DLA Oklahoma City is the second Air Force Materiel Command air logistics center to implement the BRAC mandate, with 365 jobs transferring in place to DLA. A similar transition will take place at Ogden ALC at Hill AFB, Utah, in April 2008. DLA Warner Robins, Ga. was the first site established under the BRAC 2005 mandate. On Oct. 15, 240 employees, who were a part of the 702nd Maintenance Support Squadron of the 402nd Maintenance Wing at Robins AFB, transferred to DLA. DLA Oklahoma City will be managed by DLA's aviation supply chain, DSCR, based in Richmond, Va. DLA and Air Force Materiel Command worked together to make the transition a smooth one for realigned employees, while ensuring continuity of service to warfighters.
