Maintenance squadrons square off: 552 MXS wins by 20

After a break for the holidays, the sound of the basketballs hitting the hardwood returned to the Gerrity Fitness and Sports Center Jan. 9.
   The 552nd Maintenance Squadron defeated the 552nd Aircraft Maintenance Squadron 40-20 in the Large Squadron division.
   Forward Michael McCray lead the 552nd MSX to an early lead. He scored eight of the first 10 points of the game, giving his team a 14-3 advantage.
   The 552nd AMXS attempted a comeback with the help of point guard Matthew Mullins. He hit key shots down the stretch to narrow the margin to 14-7 with a little more than 2 minutes remaining in the first half.
   The 552nd MXS ended the first half on a 6-0 run, led by McCray who scored three baskets on successive trips down the floor.
   The second half started the same as the first with McCray hitting two key baskets, giving the 552nd MXS a comfortable 24-9 lead with 14:35 remaining.
   "Our keys to victory were our pressure defense and our ability to dominate the low post offensively and defensively," said 552nd MXS head coach Reginald Felton.
   With the win, the 552nd MXS improved to 3-0 on the season. The loss dropped the 552nd AMXS to 2-2.
   McCray lead his team in scoring with a game-high 14 points, while the 552nd AMXS was paced by Mullins who chipped in 13 points.
