EAP, Military OneSource resources available at Tinker Published Nov. 30, 2007 By Brandice J. Armstrong Tinker Public Affairs TINKER AIR FORCE BASE -- Tinker officials want more base personnel to take advantage of the Employee Assistance Program and Military OneSource resources. In addition to being free services, the programs will likely help troubled Airmen and Air Force Materiel Command civilians with their dilemmas. "Practicing good Wingman behavior needs to happen daily and includes knowing when and where to seek help for ourselves and our fellow Wingmen," wrote AFMC Vice Commander Lt. Gen. Terry Gabreski in a memo dated Nov. 1. "Understanding EAP and Military OneSource is one step in helping us to be alert, get involved and take action when required." Though the two programs are similar, EAP assists civilian personnel while Military OneSource helps Airmen. Both programs allow a troubled individual or his immediate dependents up to six free counseling sessions per incident. Military OneSource will refer an individual or his dependent to a local counseling provider, and both programs also offer confidentiality within the limits of the law. "We are available and we just want to help," said Brenda Ferguson, one of Tinker's two licensed professional counselors in the EAP. Furthermore, both programs offer assistance beyond counseling. Questions ranging from behavioral health, life management, adoption or financial assistance, elder care, and even dealing with difficult employees, can be found on either Web site or by calling the toll-free phone number. "There are answers to almost any question you might have; no question is too small, no issue too big," said Michelle Loughlin, Wingman coordinator.
