Free tobacco cessation programs, medications for DOD civilians Published Oct. 26, 2007 By Health and Wellness Center TINKER AIR FORCE BASE -- Are you thinking about quitting tobacco? Perhaps you are one of the 70 percent of smokers or smokeless tobacco users who would like to quit. The Health and Wellness Center wants to help by providing a tobacco cessation orientation meeting. This meeting will provide information on how to quit, the two types of tobacco cessation programs available and how to obtain free medications by participating. Even if you are not ready to quit now, you can use this day to get prepared for the day when you will quit for good. You can start right now by calling the HAWC and signing up for one of two meetings. The meetings are set for 1:30 p.m. Nov. 7 in the 76th Propulsion Maintenance Group Conference Room A (2WAE) or 1 p.m. Nov. 14 in the Heritage Hall (72nd Medical Group). You need to bring a signed tobacco cessation waiver form from your provider along with your prescription for Chantix, Zyban or nicotine patches to the meeting if you have already decided to start a tobacco cessation program and wish to obtain these medications through the HAWC. The form is available in the HAWC or Civilian Health Promotion Services offices or by e-mailing karen.blackwell@us.af.mil). If you aren't ready for a lifetime quit just yet, try to quit using tobacco for one day Nov. 15 along with thousands of people all over the country during the Great American Smokeout. Quitting for the day helps you raise awareness on your smoking behaviors, triggers, and barriers. Use this day to study your smoking habits and identify the resources need to help you quit. For more information about the Great American Smokeout or tobacco cessation programs available to you, call the HAWC at 734-5505 or 734-5506.
