Col. Brad Ashley, Oklahoma City Air Logistics Center vice commander, is one of approximately 750 users to learn how easy it is to use Silanis ApproveIt software.
With Silanis'ApproveIt software, the center now has a secure, electronic alternative to hand-signing documents.
As a JITC-certified, commercial off-the-shelf electronic signing application, it works with the Department of Defense Public Key Infrastructure, Common Access Card and the most widely used file formats such as Microsoft Word and Excel.
Using the latest digital signature technology, it ensures secure electronic signing capabilities and incorporates a process that captures and reproduces your exact signature so the electronic process is actually auditable and legally enforceable.
According to Kevin Smith, Information Technology specialist, "The goal is to bring credibility to the signing process and discontinue use of cut and paste signatures."
The OC-ALC staff and others using this software will be able to electronically sign documents with the assurance that all signatures are secure and verifiable, the contents of a signed document cannot be modified without detection or authorization, and a permanent audit trail of the process has been created to record the accountability of all parties.
Legislation, Air Force and DOD policy support the use of digital signatures.
Janice Morrison, program manager, said she and Mr. Smith provide information to users and schedule familiarization training upon request for digital signatures daily. Currently, the software is available to those responsible for signing official documents on a regular basis.
