Tinker employees can self-nominate for TOPS Published Oct. 11, 2007 By Donna Zawisza 72nd Mission Support Squadron TINKER AIR FORCE BASE -- The 72nd Mission Support Squadron has announced that current Tinker employees have another opportunity to self-nominate for the Tinker Opportunity for Professional Services announcement open today and closing Oct 25. The program gives current Tinker Air Force Base civilian employees a developmental opportunity to transition into specific general schedule series based on their education, experience and performance. The TOPS program initiated Sept. 22, 2006, as a result of partnership initiatives between the Civilian Personnel Office, Oklahoma City Air Logistics Center managers, and AFGE Local 916. Management selected five employees this past year: three GS-343, Management Analyst, and two GS-1910, Quality Assurance Specialist. Management will continue to utilize the TOPS program in fiscal year 2008. Management identified three series for implementation: Equipment Specialist (GS-1670), Quality Assurance Specialist (GS-1910), and Management and Program Analyst (GS-343). A formalized training plan exists for each series with an entry level of GS-5 and a target grade of GS-11. The continued goal of TOPS is to competitively move employees into positions that maximize their education and experience. The Air Force Personnel Center Civilian Personnel Office refers candidates from a 90-day standing register. Therefore, employees must self-nominate for each series they are interested in each time a TOPS announcement opens. Employees may self-nominate for TOPS positions through the AFPC Web site at https://ww2.afpc.randolph.af.mil/resweb/ or through the Interactive Voice Response System at 1-800-616-3775. Employees that subscribe to Civilian Announcement Notification System, through the AFPC Web site at https://ww2.afpc.randolph.af.mil /resweb/cans.htm may include specific search criteria for TOPS positions such as: GS-343-5, GS-1670-5, and/or GS-1910-5. The system will automatically search for jobs based on your search criteria; if there are any matches, an email will be sent to you listing the job announcement number, description, pay plan, occupational series, grade, job location, and closing date. Keep in mind the CANS is strictly a "notification system." You must self nominate through the AFPC secure website to be considered. Employees are encouraged to review their career brief to ensure education level is correct. Individuals should also ensure their Official Personnel File contains the most recent copy of their official transcript. For assistance, Maintenance employees can contact the Human Resources Specialist for their organization by calling 739-2660. All other employees can reach their Human Resources Specialist at 739-3803.
