The action heated up in week three of the Commanders Trophy bowling league.
On Sept. 19, the first-place 552nd Aircraft Maintenance Squadron team defeated For the $$$$$ Again by 38 pins during intramural bowling at the Tinker Bowling Center.
For the $$$$$ Again got out to an early lead on clutch strikes and spares by Kevin Snyder and Bill Simmons, enabling their team to post a 1,172-1,080 victory in game one.
"Robert Perkins rolled his usual high score -- 230 -- and the rest of our team bowled well above our averages," Snyder said. "That was the key to gaining the first win of the match."
The 552nd AMXS rolled back into the match with clutch performances by Rick Stutzman, Dallas Thompson and James Wong. They bowled a 213, 184, and 189, respectively, en route to a 13-pin victory in game two.
"We capitalized on our opportunities and made the most of our chances in this second game," said Wong.
It all came down to the third game. All five bowlers from the 552nd AMXS squad were consistent and exceeded their efforts in the first two games. The bowlers matched each other in strikes and spares, leading to an impressive 1,084-967 victory, propelling them to a 3,210-3,172 total pin win.
"We have a lot of fun out here, and competition is always tight in this league," Wong said. "Our teamwork and willingness to dig deep was our key to victory."
The win gave the 552nd AMXS a season record of 20-4, while the loss dropped the For the $$$$$ Again team to 8-16.
