The 72nd Operational Support Squadron defeated the Fire Dawgs 3,273-3,013 in total pin count during intramural bowling action Sept. 12 at the Tinker Bowling Center.
Paige Frye, Christina Juarez, Debbie Defeo, Carmelo Juarez and Jerry Ealom represented the 72nd OSS while Billy Newton, Steve Holekamp, Don Harsley, Daryl Page and Dan Chabiel bowled for the Fire Dawgs.
Both teams started strong in the first game, with Newton bowling high score of 213. The play of the 72nd OSS, combined with their handicap, made it difficult for the Fire Dawgs to mount a challenge.
"Their handicap is really high and they were bowling over and above their average, giving them a definite advantage tonight," Newton said.
The second and third games were much the same as the first. The 72nd OSS squad met every challenge offered by the Fire Dawgs.
The highlight in game two for the Fire Dawgs came when both Newton and Holekamp fired three consecutive strikes to start the game.
Three Fire Dawgs bowled 200 games -- Newton 223, Holekamp 200 and Harsley 200 -- but to no avail as their opponent won games two and three decisively.
"We needed to pick up our pace tonight and at times we had it and at other times we did not," said Newton.
The win improved the 72nd OSS record to 1-1, while the loss dropped the Fire Dawgs to 1-1.
