The flag football team from the 32nd Combat Communications Squadron defeated the Marines 18-6 Aug. 12 at the Tinker Sports Complex.
The game got off to a roaring start on a trick play pulled off by the 32nd CCS team. Quarterback Rob Massey performed the wrong ball trick play to perfection. He received the ball and walked toward the sideline like he had the wrong ball. "Hey Wiley, get me the other ball," Massey yelled. After reaching the sideline, he raced 80 yards down the field for the game's first touchdown.
Midway through the second quarter, Massey connected with wide receiver Michael Johnson on a 10-yard touchdown reception, giving the 32nd CCS a 12-0 advantage.
In the first half, the 32nd CCS defense kept the Marines out of the endzone with a pair of defensive stands and a Hughes interception.
"Let's keep up the pressure," Massey said. "We are playing well in the first half, but let's play the same way in the second half."
A 15-yard scoring strike from Massey to Jeff Tolentino in the third quarter gave the 32nd CCS a decisive 18-0 lead.
The Marines got on the scoreboard late in the fourth quarter when linebacker Kevin Cain returned an interception for a touchdown.
Massey, who completed 11 of 17 passes for 165 yards with two touchdowns, was the game's most valuable player. He also rushed for a team high of 75 yards and one touchdown.
The win evened the 32nd CCS record at 1-1, while the loss dropped the Marines to 0-1.
