The central Oklahoma military community is gearing up for the Combined Federal Campaign beginning Oct. 3.
Officials are encouraging Team Tinker to prepare for the season of giving by donating to the campaign that serves more than 1,800 charities.
"The beauty of the campaign is that you can donate to a local, state, nationwide or international charities. With 1,800 charities, there is a full range from which to choose," said Col. Tracy Tynan, this year's Central Oklahoma military lead for the campaign.
Colonel Tynan said the campaign is important because it is an opportunity to give back to the community and help people in need.
"You never know when a twist of fate could put you or your family in a situation where you need assistance," the colonel said.
Campaign officials hope to raise $1.65 million from the central Oklahoma military community, not only from Tinker, but from all branches of service and military organizations in central Oklahoma.
Military members and civilian personnel can contribute to the fund by payroll deduction, cash or check donation. The central Oklahoma Combined Federal campaign ends Nov. 16.
Colonel Tynan said last year Tinker and the greater military communities far exceeded the $1.5 million goal, adding that the civilian and military community in central Oklahoma is one of the most generous in the country.
