Oklahoma City Air Logistics Complex engineers, technicians and maintenance artisans collaborate monthly to solve challenges with cost-effective and innovative solutions for the warfighter.

In August, efforts by the Maintenance Groups within the OC-ALC have resulted in significant cost avoidance totaling more than $3 million:

During non-destructive inspection, the 76th Aircraft Maintenance Group discovered corrosion on a key piece of material. Improved operations developed by the 76 AMXG removed defects and provided an in-house solution, saving $136,000.

The 552nd Commodities Maintenance Squadron improved main fuel control throttle rigging, a key engine performance component. A collaborative team of mechanics, engineers and original equipment manufacturer experts revised inconsistent processes to align with best practices and incorporate field experience, leading to $170,000 in cost avoidance.

The 76th Maintenance Support Group addressed parts initially deemed nonconforming and designated for scrap after failing to meet dimensional quality standards. By sending parts to quality control for a secondary inspection of non-conforming features before discarding, the group found a cost-effective solution for multiple parts, returning aircraft to service and avoiding $790,000 in costs.

Members of the 544th Propulsion Maintenance Squadron addressed a lack of standardized maintenance scripts, which hindered mechanic efficiency and inflated operating costs. Their solution, optimizing process improvements and enhancing production visibility, process control and proactive risk management, has resulted in over $2 million in cost avoidance.

The Oklahoma City Air Logistics Complex at Tinker Air Force Base is home to the Defense Department's largest maintenance, repair and overhaul facility with a team of over 9,000 military and civilian professionals delivering combat power for America.
