TINKER AIR FORCE BASE, Okla -- Shelves at Tinker’s Food Pantry are overflowing once again thanks to a generous Nov. 20 donation from the Oklahoma City Thunder.
The Thunder teamed up with Homeland and Coca-Cola Southwest Beverages to assemble a 4,000-pound resupply for the base’s no-cost pantry, which supports service members and civilians affected by the recent government shutdown.
Items included:
- 200 boxes of macaroni and cheese
- 200 cans of chicken noodle soup
- 100 bags of rice
- Hundreds of assorted canned goods
- Nearly 800 individual beverages including water and juice
The Tinker Food Pantry opened 22 days into the record-breaking 43-day shutdown, relying solely on community donations and installation volunteers to stay up and running. The large donation from the Thunder, Homeland and Coca-Cola Southwest Beverages will provide additional support for affected military and civilian personnel through the holidays.
Starting Dec. 2, Tinker Food Pantry will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesdays, Thursdays and the last Saturday of the month. It is located inside the Military & Family Readiness Center in Bldg. 6001.
