TINKER AIR FORCE BASE, Okla. -- Team Tinker had the opportunity to showcase its diverse and critical missions to members of Leadership Midwest City during a base tour April 9.
The engagement was designed to strengthen community partnerships and provide local leaders with a deeper understanding of the vital national security work accomplished at Tinker Air Force Base.
Representing the installation, Col. Tamilyn Dismukes, deputy commander of the 72nd Air Base Wing, welcomed the civic leaders and dedicated her day to leading the group. The tour highlighted the symbiotic relationship between the base and the surrounding community, emphasizing the shared commitment to the region's success and the nation's defense.
The group was given an in-depth look at several key missions across the installation. This included a stop at the Navy's Strategic Communications Wing ONE, demonstrating Tinker's joint-force environment. The group also visited the air traffic control tower to see daily air operations and the complexity of managing one of the busiest airfields in the Department of War.
A major focus of the day was the Oklahoma City Air Logistics Complex. Col. Jason Martin, OC-ALC mobilization assistant, briefed the group on the complex's depot maintenance responsibilities. The tour also provided a specific look into the KC-135 program depot maintenance line, showcasing how the OC-ALC’s artisans sustain the backbone of the Air Force's global reach tanker fleet.
“Our community partnerships are critical to Tinker’s, past, present and future,” said Dismukes. “Leadership groups like the Midwest City program provide a great opportunity for the installation to showcase critical missions and enable these key partners to advocate to their communities.”
Tinker civilians have taken part in the Leadership Midwest City program in the past. This gives civilian leadership an opportunity to gain a better understanding of Midwest City and forge vital relationships necessary to strengthen the bond.
