Clubs work to bring America’s Wing and Team Tinker together Published June 24, 2016 By Ron Mullan Tinker Public Affairs TINKER AIR FORCE BASE, Okla. -- Do you like to cook cuisine from different cultures and countries? Maybe you're a shade tree mechanic who likes to work on cars. Or maybe you're a game enthusiast who likes to play electronic and board games. But finding others who share your passion is not always easy. Well your search is over. No more moping around your dorm room, apartment or house frustrated at not being able to find others who share your interest and getting together to enjoy your favorite activity. On Tuesday, June 27, from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. the 552nd Air Control Wing is hosting a "Bringing America's Wing and Team Tinker Together" event at Dock 2 in Hangar 230. Representatives from approximately 20 different on-base clubs will be on hand to answer your questions, introduce you to others with the same interests and sign you up. There will also be food trucks, a DJ and an appearance by America's Wing Band, one of the hottest bands in the metroplex. The event is open to active duty, Guard, Reserve, civilian employees, retirees and family members. The idea for the "Bringing America's Wing and Team Tinker Together" program came following the successful program developed at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base. "The 4th Fighter Wing at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base created a club program to allow their Airmen to find other Airmen with common interests," said Col. Gaedecke. "We in the 552nd ACW are trying to model after their highly successful program. We know our Airmen will be safer, happier, and more resilient if they have a strong professional connection to friends and co-workers, both at work and off-duty." What began as a 552nd ACW program initially has quickly expanded to include the entire base. "We hope to introduce this program to Tinker AFB and help everyone find someone else with common interests," said the colonel. "We are using this month's Comprehensive Airman Fitness day, emphasizing the Social Pillar, as an opportunity. "'Bringing America's Wing and Team Tinker Together' creates an environment that allows our Airmen to come together, regardless of age or background, to share common interests and promote social interactions." Colonel Gaedecke went on to emphasize the importance of taking care of Airmen. "Bringing America's Wing and Team Tinker Together provides a venue for people to showcase different activities and clubs that are available and to inspire others to join in. It's my number one priority to ensure we take care of our Airmen and foster camaraderie."
