Wildcatters,

The Memorial Day weekend allows us time both to remember those who sacrificed their lives for our freedoms as well as for downtime to spend with family and friends.  As your commander, I ask that you please keep a few simple safety precautions in mind as you plan and enjoy this break.

If you drink alcohol, have a plan and follow your plan to consume alcohol responsibly; the consequences of impaired driving, riding, or boating are just too much to risk.  If you are under the age of 21, there is ONLY one rule; drinking is against the law!

For those who plan to drive long distances, be sure to double check that your vehicle is ready for the trip and that you are well rested before driving; and be smart about the length of time you drive without additional rest.  Rest periods every 2 hours/100 miles, and travelling no further than
400 miles a day are good rules of thumb.

If you travel by vehicle, even a short distance, remember to use appropriate personal protective equipment.  That means seat belts for vehicle travel; helmets, proper hand and footwear, and protective clothing for motorcycles and bicycle travel.

As your fellow Airman, please practice a good Wingman attitude and intervene if family or friends attempt unsafe behaviors.  Personal protective equipment such as seatbelts, helmets, life vests, and appropriate footwear are essential, but they are the last line of defense when an accident happens.

Please be proactive and make the right Risk Management decisions to avoid mishaps.

Thank you for what you do every day to ensure all of Team Tinker knows they can count on us.

Have a fun, safe, and relaxing Memorial Day weekend!
