AFRC Commander's Memorial Day message Published May 26, 2016 By Lt. Gen. James F. Jackson Commandeer, Air Force Reserve Command ROBINS AIR FORCE BASE, Ga. -- AFRC Team, The Memorial Day weekend kicks off a very busy summer season. We typically see a spike in motor vehicle accidents and sports & recreation type injuries during this time of year. As you travel and enjoy outdoor activities, barbecues, and time with family & friends this weekend and throughout the summer, please be safe! Like success in any endeavor, mishap prevention requires planning and forethought. Before you hit the road, head to the water, or light the grill, take a few minutes to identify potential risks and ways to mitigate them. You can use GPS to help with this. GPS (Gear, Plan, Skills) is a great risk management tool, and it's easy to use. Gear: Do you have the right equipment and is it in good condition? How's the tire pressure? Is the grill in good shape, on solid ground? Plan: Do you have a good plan and a backup to cover possible contingencies? How does the weather affect the plan? Does someone else know what your plan is? Do you have food & water? Skills: Are any special skills required? When was the most recent time you practiced these skills? Need a refresher or ease back into it? Are you well rested? GPS only takes a moment or two to use to keep you and your family and friends safe this summer season. Enjoy your long weekend and thanks for all you do! JJ JAMES F. JACKSON, Lt Gen, USAF Commander
