Team Tinker raised more than $60,000 to help extended Air Force families in need on base and around the world.

The base's 2016 Air Force Assistance Fund drive pulled in $60,324 in pledged donations, said Master Sgt. James "Sky" Howell with the 72nd Aerospace Medicine Squadron. Master Sgt. Howell and Master Sgt. Charles Droddy, 72nd Security Forces Squadron, were the base project officers.

"Even though we didn't meet our goal, we still met what we set out to do, which was to raise money for the Air Force Assistance Fund, the charity that's helping our own," Sergeant Howell said.

Sergeant Howell thanked unit project officers and volunteers for their hard work in the March 1 to May 13 drive.

"I'm by no means disappointed with our results," the sergeant said. "I'm happy that we got $60,000. That's $60,000 we didn't have before the campaign started."

The AFAF aids Airmen, dependents and retirees worldwide with help ranging from emergency rental assistance to homes for widowed spouses in financial hardship. The Air Force Aid Society, at the Airman and Family Readiness Center, one of the AFAF charities, provided more than $200,000 in loans and grants to Airmen, Air Force dependents and Sailors at Tinker last year.

The AFAF also helps to fund the Gen. and Mrs. Curtis E. LeMay Foundation, which gives grants to Air Force retirees' surviving spouses struggling with living expenses.
The base's AFAF goal this year was $98,398.
