Near Bldg. 3001, Substation 6 is replacing Substation 2. The project is being constructed by OG&E, which owns the exterior electrical distribution system. The substation is in accordance with new standards and it will provide extra capability and eliminate electrical problems. The $6 million deal is part of the Air Force Electrical Privatization Project. All the substations will be brought up to standards. The former 3rd Combat Communications Group compound is revamping as well. With an estimated $9.1 million project, the plan is to move the 72nd Air Base Wing headquarters into the old 3rd Herd headquarters building, joining security forces, Fire Station 4 and Force Support Squadron Manpower and Personnel and Marketing offices which have already moved to other buildings in that area. These units will soon be joined by the JAG office, which will have a new, updated courtroom, and other staff offices from Bldg. 460. The estimated completion time is January 2018, or sooner. According to Scott Appleton, the onsite government construction manager with Naval Facilities and Engineering Command, the four original hangars were meant to be operational hangars, for things such as an oil change or quick turn maintenance items. The life of the E-6B has been significantly extended with the development of a programmed depot maintenance schedule. The expertise of Navy engineers and Tinker artisans needed room to dedicate to PDM operations and execute their plan. The Navy reviewed the requirements, and at a cost of roughly $18 million, the decision was made to build a new hangar. It is estimated to be completed sometime in August. TINKER AIR FORCE BASE, Okla. -- There are orange cones and temporary fencing in several locations across the base, and for good reason too: progress.

Brad Beam, 72nd Air Base Wing Civil Engineering Directorate deputy, said some of these projects have been sorely needed.

The new fuel station on the corner of Vanaman and Air Depot is a military construction project worth about $4.6 million. The new station will feature four pumps and carry E-85, modern gasoline and diesel. It is set for completion in December, barring any complications.

Mr. Beam said the new station was necessary because the old one is located within the clear zone and has reached its useful life, so as part of the project, it will be torn down.

A new DLA water storage tank at Bldg. 412 will provide full fire protection to their warehouses. The concrete storage tank will hold the water for fire suppression systems being installed.
