The Tinker installation commander has extended the Air Force Assistance Fund donation campaign to help boost Tinker's contributions to the charity by and for Airmen.
Last year the AFAF-funded Air Force Aid Society office at Tinker's Airman and Family Readiness Center provided more than $200,000 in zero-interest loans to Airmen, Air Force dependents and Sailors facing financial crises and other emergencies.

Col. Stephanie Wilson, 72nd Air Base Wing and installation commander, urged Team Tinker members to give whatever they can by contacting their units' AFAF key worker. Donation forms to fill out and deliver to AFAF key workers are available at www.afassistancefund.org.

"Our base goal for this year is $98,398 and we have currently raised $22,000 with less than two weeks remaining in our original campaign dates," the colonel said.

"We have seen the Air Force Aid Society help over 7,600 Airmen in a single quarter before," Colonel Wilson said, "and the other affiliate charities often help our retired Airmen and their surviving family members on a continual basis. Thank you for continuing our proud tradition in our 'Commitment to Caring' through giving to the AFAF campaign."

The campaign that began March 1 has been extended to April 26, the colonel said.
The AFAF aids Airmen with help ranging from emergency funds for basic living expenses to homes for retirees and widows/widowers.

The fund's worldwide fundraising goal this year is $6.78 million. In addition to AFAS, the drive helps fund the Air Force Village and Air Force Enlisted Villages, which operate retirement communities, and the Gen. and Mrs. Curtis E. LeMay Foundation, which gives financial grants to struggling surviving spouses of all Air Force retirees who qualify.
