Med Group stitches up 19-6 win Published March 18, 2016 By John Parker Staff Writer TINKER AIR FORCE BASE Okla., -- In a clash of last year's intramural football champions, 72nd Med Group scored three touchdowns to take down 552 AMXS 19-6 on Tuesday. Med Group, the spring 2015 champions, scored TDs on a 50-yard breakaway run and two passes. AMXS won last year's fall league. Neither squad scored in the first half. AMXS had first possession on their 20 with a steady 20 mph headwind. After three and out, Med Group picked up the offense at AMXS's 44. AMXS shut down Med Group's drive at the 20 with a sack on third down. A field goal attempt was long enough, but just outside the right goalpost. AMXS later threatened after receiving a punt at their own 45. Bates ran past three would-be tacklers to the 8 yard line. Med Group stopped three pass attempts, though, to shut down a score. Med Group struck quickly in the second half. Quarterback Marques Mitchell led a touchdown drive from the 20. He threw a short pass to an open player in the middle who lateraled to Zhamar McAdory. McAdory took advantage of the open left side for a 50-yard TD run. Med Group's next score was from AMXS' five. Mitchell hit an open Tre Williams in the middle of the zone to go up 12-0. AMXS answered back on the next possession. From their 20, QB Marc Bates dashed in three runs in a row to Med Group's 46 yard line. The next pass put them on the 2 yard line. Bates hit Joseph Peace in the right-side end zone for 6. Med Group's Hunter Hessong pulled down the last TD when a pass deflected off the intended receiver. "I didn't even know the play," he said after the game. "I just turned around when they threw it up and it fell in my lap." Med Group added the extra point. Med Group coach Marcus Poulos called it a challenging game. "We struggled in the first half and then we kind of put all the pieces together in the second," he said. "It was a hard-fought battle by the 552, so congratulations to them, but we ended up victorious today." Player/coach Bates said Med Group was more efficient on both sides of the ball. "We simply didn't play well," he said. "I look forward to playing them again in the future."
