Hawks go 1-for-1 vs. McConnell Published March 18, 2016 By John Parker Staff Writer TINKER AIR FORCE BASE Okla., -- The Tinker Hawks varsity basketball team crushed McConnell AFB by 35 points last Saturday. The Tornadoes recovered quickly, though, and won the second game 89-86. Coach Jonathan Morgan said McConnell had trouble with cold shooting in the first matchup. The Hawks prevailed 88-53. "We caught fire a little bit and got some rhythm going on offense," Morgan said. "We didn't have to do a whole lot on defense because they just weren't hitting many shots, so we went on a roll." The Hawks' Jarail Smith racked up 29 points in the game, while Ryan Florie posted 21. Zhamar McAdory was another key point maker. "The second game I think their energy level was up a little higher than ours," coach said. "They were getting a lot of loose balls and second chance points, and then they shot the ball a whole lot better, especially threes." Smith and McAdory delivered almost all of the Hawks' offense and were the only players to reach double digits. Smith dropped a whopping 41 points. McAdory scored 26. The home stand weekend at Gerrity Fitness Center was cut short to one day when Whiteman AFB couldn't muster enough players for the trip. The Hawks are 13-7 as their regular-season Central U.S. Military Basketball Conference play ends this weekend. They're scheduled to play the Tornadoes again and Whiteman AFB at Whiteman on Saturday and Sunday.
