752 OSS's all-game lead stretched to as much as 13 points against 72 LRS Feb. 9, but LRS rallied to within two scores in the final minute. 752 OSS won 47-40.

Dalton Nguyen was the Operations Support Squadron's scoring ace, with 13 points. Eric Blackwell was close behind with five field goals for 12 on the board. Both scored two 3-pointers.

Ethan Carter with Logistics Readiness Squadron won top scoring honors with 20 points. He bagged eight 2-pointers and four free throws. Terrell Turner was 72 LRS' next highest shooter, with 14 points, including two treys.

Both teams played four to a side. 72 LRS only had four players at tipoff and 752 OSS agreed to match squads. Intramural rules allow the compromise, which must be followed the entire game.

752 OSS claimed the lead from the first basket, taking it to its largest margin, 30-17, shortly after the start of the second half.

Impressive plays included 752's Blackwell attacking the basket with a defender smothering him. Instead of shooting, he popped the ball low and backward to Howard Morgan, who was open under the hoop and banked it for 2.

72 LRS showed the same kind of teamwork after Turner knocked down an OSS pass in their end of the court. Carter recovered the ball and bounced a long pass across half-court. Wendall Curry was open in the paint for an easy goal.

72 LRS fought back to within six points in the final minute to threaten their opponent's 44-38 lead. 752 OSS, however, slowed the pace and Blackwell landed from the wing for a 3-pointer. OSS ran out the clock from there as LRS declined to foul or challenge shooters.

752 OSS had no problem fouling, racking up 13 in all. LRS tallied three.

72 LRS captain Jamaria Rose said the game was the best of their season so far.

"We played hard to cut the lead to single digits and the team worked well together," she said. "We didn't foul or challenge their shooters around the perimeter this matchup because since most of them were guards, there wasn't really much offensive rebounding that would take place on their end, so we just crashed the boards.

"If we would have fouled them that would place them in the bonus so we didn't want to allow them free baskets as they were a great midrange team."

752 OSS team captain Nguyen said four-on-four changed their defensive schemes a bit. Poor defensive positioning and OSS fouls kept 72 LRS in the game in the second half, he said.

"LRS played tough and kept it in there," Nguyen said. "I understand that it's hard to get enough people to play a game because we don't have large units like some others.

For our team lately, we are starting to click with each other better and now have a two-game winning streak. I hope to extend that."
