Lights Out banged its way past 76 CMXG to claim the wallyball tournament championship Jan. 28.

The team of John Truong, Thomas Nguyen and Kyle Barton needed to beat 76 CMXG twice because they entered the loser's bracket with one earlier loss. CMXG consisted of Chris Hill, Jason Alvarez and Patrick Steelman.

Truong and Barton work in civil engineering. Nguyen is a longtime volleyball colleague of Truong's.

"We picked him up on our team because he's big and tall," Truong said. "We've played outdoors in a church league, and we've been playing probably about 15 years now."
Ten teams participated in the tournament at the Gerrity Fitness Center. Squads included the 965 AACS, ANG and 552 ACW. Wallyball is basically volleyball played with a net inside a racquetball court. Off-the-wall shots are allowed.

Truong said he enjoyed the tournament and hopes more will be held in the future.
"It was really good to get a tournament going," he said. "It's been a long time. It's fun to do some things with your colleagues and people around base."
