The Gerrity Fitness Center's Get Fit Challenge is underway.

With 106 participants, civilian and active duty alike, the event has many like Carrie Nellans and William Jones excited about improving their fitness.

The challenge encourages members to set their own goals (based on stats they received from their Bod Pod reading and nutrition class) while offering some help along the way through weekly workouts, healthy recipe alternatives and motivation.
While she has goals she hopes to accomplish, Ms. Nellans said she is going to use the challenge as a road to better health.

"I want to get healthy and improve my overall fitness lifestyle," she said, adding that she is also using a popular fitness app to stay on track.

Mr. Jones, who also hopes to improve his overall health, said he wants to reduce his body weight by at least 20 pounds during the 12 week challenge.

"My current body fat is at 37 percent and I would like to take that under 30 percent," he said.

He also plans to participate in many of the events.

"Everything I attend will hold me that much more accountable to my overall goals," Mr. Jones said.
