Lillian Flores claimed a prime spot on the new Gerrity Fitness Center bleachers recently, with lots of room for her toddler, Riley, to crawl around.

The only problem was Riley had other plans.

"It's something she can crawl on, but she seems more interested in going out there and playing," Flores laughed.

Family, friends and spectators enjoyed shiny new bleachers Jan. 12 that were installed the week before.

Flores watched her husband Sean rack up the second-highest scoring total for his team, the Navy VQ-7. The elevated bleachers replaced the previous setup of about a dozen folding chairs available on a first come, first serve basis.

"It's definitely better than the last ones," she said. "It's always good to have a place to sit."
Matt McCauley, with the 552nd Air Control Networks Squadron, is a Gerrity gym regular. He likes the new addition.

"They look nice and they're comfortable," he said at halftime. "It's nice for the friends and family that want to come and watch people. It gives everybody room to sit."

"I feel the same way," said Michael Helsdingen, a member of the 72nd Force Support Squadron Honor Guard. "It gives everybody a little more room to relax instead of being a potential hazard on the sideline."
