Base agencies can help you keep your resolutions Published Jan. 8, 2016 By Kimberly Woodruff Staff Writer TINKER AIR FORCE BASE, Okla. -- With the beginning of a new year, many people make resolutions to do something different to enrich or better their lives. Some of the most common resolutions include losing weight, getting healthy, eating better, saving money, going back to school or becoming more spiritual. If any of these sound like your resolutions, you're in luck because there are several base helping agencies that can help you achieve your goals. Want to lose weight and get healthy? A visit with a physician would be the first place to start before hopping on a treadmill. After you are clear to begin, there are three fitness centers on base to facilitate a great workout. Also, the base trails offer exercise options for those who like jogging, walking or bike riding. The great outdoors provides a number sporting activities to get the blood pumping. Side by side with exercise, eating healthier can help with reaching a healthy and fit goal. Tinker Health Promotions has classes like Better Body. Better Life. that can teach participants about calories and making good food choices, both at home and when eating out. If saving more money is a goal, visit the Airman and Family Readiness Center. Learn to plan a reasonable budget and get tips to stay on course. The A&FRC will hold a financial fair on Feb. 24 that will be packed with money-saving information. For those wanting to go back to finish their education, military and civilian personnel can visit the base education office. There you can learn about the schools and their programs, financial aid and much more. Anyone else can research schools at the base library or online. Lastly, one of the four pillars of wellness includes the spiritual side. If you're wanting to become more spiritual, stop by the Tinker Chapel and talk with someone. The visit is non-judgmental and you're not committing to anything, so it doesn't hurt to go ask a few questions. Keeping a resolution can be challenging, but here are some tips to follow to make it less intimidating. · Make a plan and write it down · Give yourself a specific time frame -- if a whole year scares you, try six months · Tell friends and family and, if possible, tackle it together for motivational support · Reward yourself on occasion for meeting small goals and don't beat yourself up if you fall off the wagon With a little help, you can achieve your goals and, hopefully, enrich your life.
