An Air Force jury on Nov. 20 sentenced Staff Sgt. Elijah Langhorne to 12 years in prison for conspiracy to commit premeditated murder and other crimes related to a murder-for-hire scheme.

Court-martial jurors deliberated about two hours before delivering the sentence in the weeklong trial.

On Nov. 19, Sergeant Langhorne, 32, was convicted of two counts of conspiracy to commit premeditated murder, one specification of aggravated arson and one specification of reckless endangerment. He was found not guilty of attempted premeditated murder, the most serious allegation.

The seven jurors also imposed a reduction in rank to airman basic. He was ordered to forfeit all pay and allowances and receive a dishonorable discharge.

Langhorne was charged with conspiring with Staff Sgt. Steven Bailey in a plot to kill Bailey's ex-fiancee. Sergeant Bailey's court-martial is scheduled for January.

The sergeant faced a maximum sentence of life in prison without parole. Col. Vance Spath, the Air Force's chief trial judge, presided over the case.
