Financial managers set to attend training workshop at Tinker Published Nov. 19, 2015 By John Parker Staff Writer TINKER AIR FORCE BASE, Okla. -- About 200 military financial managers from across Oklahoma are signed up to attend an important training workshop Dec. 1 at Tinker Air Force Base. Charisse Slarve, president of the local Sequoyah Chapter of the American Society of Military Comptrollers, said due to past budget constraints this will be the chapter's first Professional Development Institute since 2012. The all-day workshop at the Tinker Club is well-timed as it will cover new and upcoming Department of Defense initiatives to improve keeping track of taxpayer money. "I think they're going to get a good perspective of what's really going on currently in financial management," said Ms. Slarve, chief of Financial Management Accounting Services for the 72nd Comptroller Squadron. Attendees will include financial professionals from Vance and Altus Air Force bases. The workshop will address aspects of the Financial Improvement and Audit Readiness Plan that aims to make all DOD general fund spending auditable by Sept. 30, 2017. An expert speaker will also provide the latest information about a related new accounting system scheduled to be implemented Air Force-wide in fiscal year 2017 - the Defense Enterprise Accounting Management System. "We're getting the word out about the changes in the accounting system, and we thought it would be a good idea if the implementation director came to Tinker, since we have so many people here that will be affected," Ms. Slarve said. "The workshop is also important because attendees will earn continuing professional education credit that helps them maintain the new DOD financial management certification requirements, too." Gen. Lee K. Levy II, commander of the Air Force Sustainment Center, will be the breakfast keynote speaker. Col. Stephanie Wilson, commander of the 72nd Air Base Wing, will speak at lunchtime. Tinker is home to more than 300 financial managers working for organizations across the base. The American Society of Military Comptrollers provides professional development, training and networking opportunities to civilian and military financial managers.
