Tinker Energy Team announces slogan contest Published Aug. 21, 2015 By 72nd Air Base Wing Civil Engineering Directorate TINKER AIR FORCE BASE, Okla. -- The Tinker Energy Team is announcing an Energy Slogan Contest and everyone is encouraged to participate. By helping the team gear up for October's Energy Awareness Month, you can become a part of Tinker's Energy Awareness Team. The winning energy slogan will be used throughout the coming year to help promote Energy Conservation in Action. You can submit your energy slogan to 72ABW.CE.Energy@us.af.mil with your name, organization, job title and phone number by Sept. 15. Be on the lookout for energy awareness events scheduled throughout the month including an Energy Contest between Tinker AFB organizations, an Energy Expo in Bldgs. 3001, 9001 and the Base Exchange, and an Energy Fun Run at the 38th Cyberspace Engineering Installation Group located at Area D, inside the Hope Gate off S.E. 74 Street. Below are some tips to help the base save on daily energy costs: -- Turn off lights at the end of the day, during lunch and when leaving a room. Break rooms, storage rooms and conference rooms should be dark when not in use. -- Turn off computer monitors when not in use. -- Turn off outside lights during the day. Report faulty sensors and controls that fail to turn off exterior lights, street lighting, and security lighting during the day. -- Keep window shades closed on the sunny side of the building to limit heat from the sun when building is being cooled by air conditioners. -- De-lamp over-lit spaces. If occupants feel offices are too bright, tubes may be removed. Supplemental task lighting can then be used to provide light at places more appropriate for the occupant. -- When old fluorescent tubes burn out, replace them with LED lights that promise better efficiency with up to 30 percent energy cost savings compared to 32 watt fluorescent tubes. The base standards now require changing fluorescent tubes to LEDs for major renovations. -- Know and set thermostats in accordance with installation thermostat policy of 76 degrees for summer and 72 degrees for winter. --Set back temperatures of heating and cooling systems during unoccupied hours. -- Report leaky piping, hose bibs, faucets, and toilets to building managers for repairs. In addition to saving water, this could lessen water or moisture damage to the facility. -- Keep doors and roll-up doors closed when not in use.
