AROUND TINKER: Retiree Volunteer of the Year

  • Published
Retired Lt. Col. James Monsees was recently named the Retiree Volunteer of the Year for Tinker Air Force Base.

He has been a volunteer at the Tinker Pharmacy for more than 19 years. He worked a total of 346 hours during the past year, which saved approximately $7,000 in personnel costs.

Colonel Monsees is not only dedicated to the pharmacy, but most importantly to the patients with whom he interacts each shift. If he can't answer a patient's question or fix their problems, he seeks help from the pharmacy staff to be sure the patient's needs are met.

He is also an active volunteer with the Oklahoma All Sports Association, as well as the India Shrine Center. Any number of times, Colonel Monsees has donated unused tickets to local sporting events to help staff morale. This kind display of generosity and sincere concern are true examples of a spirit of volunteerism.

Colonel Monsees is someone who goes above and beyond normal requirements to make sure patients' needs are met and he takes those extra opportunities to show the pharmacy staff they are all indeed a part of his extended family.
