Katie Nowell, an administrative assistant assigned to the Alternative Dispute Resolution office, recently received a 72nd Air Base Wing Wildcatter Award.

Ms. Nowell's stellar example of "Excellence in All You Do" was exemplified when she responded to a request for information from Secretary of the Air Force/General Counsel for Dispute Resolution on the decline of mediation settlement rates from ADR offices throughout the Air Force.

Ms. Nowell expeditiously queried ADR databases and compiled four Excel spreadsheets displaying information on customer satisfaction surveys, correlation between no resolution and good faith effort, mediator certifications and training and resolution rates.

She not only compiled the data, but analyzed the information and provided insight on cause and effect and highlighted focus areas for possible improvement as well as strengths. SAF/GCD's feedback to Ms. Nowell's herculean effort included "enormously helpful and an incredible effort" along with "thorough and well-articulated insights that will aid us greatly."

Ms. Nowell also embodies the core value of "Service Before Self," which she prominently displayed recently when she was called on to facilitate the scheduling of an initial mediation as well as six continuations to the mediation.

Her tireless efforts while working with complainant, representative, respondent and mediators to schedule each of these sessions while considering busy calendars and dramatically enhanced the human relations climate of the organization.

Finally, Ms. Nowell's efforts in pairing up mediators for co-mediation and providing them critical information before the mediation has resulted in a drastic increase in the mediation settlement rate for fiscal year 2015 from 51.5 percent for FY14 to 78.6 percent for the first two months of FY15.
