A&FRC to hold Financial Fair Feb. 25 Published Feb. 13, 2015 By Kimberly Woodruff Staff Writer TINKER AIR FORCE BASE, Okla. -- As part of Military Saves Week, the Airman and Family Readiness Center will be hosting a Financial Fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Feb. 25 at the Tinker Club. Military Saves Week is Feb. 23-28, coinciding with America Saves Week. Active duty military, Guard and Reserve service members, their families (spouses and youth), Department of Defense civilians and contractors, retirees and veterans are all encouraged to attend the event and learn how to improve their financial readiness. "A&FRC has seen an increased number of people coming in for some sort of financial assistance to cover basic necessities like food and housing," said Cathy Rosner, Personal Financial Management counselor with A&FRC. "In most cases we see, personal funds were not available and the recipients lacked a budget, short-term financial goals and savings," said Ms. Rosner. According to an October 2014 article in the Huffington Post, a staggering 19 percent of middle class Americans have zero retirement savings and 34 percent of middle class Americans are not currently saving for retirement. In the article, middle class is defined as "households with an annual income of $50,000 to $100,000 for 30-to-75-year-olds, and annual household income of $25,000 to $99,000 for 25-to-29-year-olds. The current U.S. median household income is $51,900." The Financial Fair features experts from organizations such as the Social Security Administration, Thrift Savings Plan, Operation Home Front, Military One Source, Tinker Federal Credit Union and FNB Community Bank. Participants can fill out a Bingo card with people they talk to, and enter to win prizes. There is over $1,000 in giveaway prizes. In addition to attending the financial fair, those interested in learning how to build a budget and get help with their finances can call and schedule a one-on-one appointment with a financial counselor. Mark the calendar and be sure to attend the Financial Fair to get tips on how to save more and improve financial readiness for your family. For more information, call A&FRC at 739-2747.
