AROUND TINKER: 72nd ABW Wildcatter Awards Published Nov. 21, 2014 By Tinker Public Affairs 72nd Air Base Wing TINKER AIR FORCE BASE, Okla. -- Three members of the 72nd Air Base Wing recently received Wildcatter Awards. Airman 1st Class James H. Selby, career development apprentice with the 72nd Force Support Squadron, has been providing top quality service in the Reenlistments and Extensions office since he arrived on station in January 2013. During this time he has processed more than 400 reenlistment contracts, updated the Military Personnel Data System and validated more than 600 transactions using the Defense Joint Military Pay System. Airman Selby is a team player who has volunteered much of his free time to ensure the mission gets accomplished, even during a 70 percent manning decrease. Furthermore, Airman Selby was a critical player in the success of the 3rd Combat Communications Group deactivation and reassignment of more than 300 personnel. In preparation of the permanent changes of station, he expeditiously processed 213 contracts for the personnel that required retainability. Ashleigh Leach, 72nd Force Support Squadron, has been the admin linchpin of Tinker's highly successful Qualified Recycling Program since November 2012. During this time, she has provided information on the QRP to base organizations, coordinated on-call pick up of recyclables, gathered competitive bids on recyclable items and kept the program's documentation in perfect order. Ms. Leach is a team player and works very hard to expand the recycling program at Tinker. She knows every bit of scrap the QRP gets and every new market she can find results in money going into the program, supporting the Airmen of Tinker Air Force Base. Ms. Leach also is a community partner, spearheading an effort to donate outdated distressed merchandise from the base commissary to the Oklahoma Regional Food Bank. This program will help feed hundreds of hungry Oklahomans every week and will eliminate wasting perfectly good but cosmetically challenged food. Ms. Leach was instrumental in planning and hosting the Tinker QRP's Nike Reuse a Shoe event this past winter. She used her talents to inspire the Tinker community to recycle and keep athletic shoes out of landfills, by repurposing them into new materials. These materials are used to make running tracks, playgrounds and tennis courts. As a result of her drive, more than 500 pairs of shoes were collected on base and recycled. Michael Beane, with the 72nd ABW Civil Engineering Directorate, has performed his duties as the Tinker Fire & Emergency Services Quartermaster since May 2014. During this time he has taken the reigns of the TFES storage facility and transformed it into a highly organized, efficiently managed logistics operation from the ground up. His interpersonal skills have proven exceptional in this position. He has worked with all levels of management and some of the toughest customers, fire fighters. Mr. Beane is self-driven and focused; he used his time wisely and often sacrificed his personal time to complete logistical goals. He has freely shared his expertise with the organization; his ability to make things happen has been extraordinary. He has been invaluable in getting the logistics section re-organized after the Fire Station 4 opening realigned the entire TFES logistic footprint.
