An Air Force major who began her career 14 years ago at Tinker AFB is back as commander of the 5th Manpower Requirements Squadron.

During an assumption of command ceremony June 25, Maj. Dyann L. Schilling accepted command of the squadron from Maj. Gen. Margaret "Peggy" Poore, commander of the Air Force Personnel Center at Joint Base San Antonio. Major Schilling takes over for former 5th MRS commander Lt. Col. Tracy Hunter, who now serves at the Air Force Academy.

At Tinker, Major Schilling was a squadron section commander in the 552nd Logistics Readiness Squadron from November 2000 to June 2002. The major also served separately as chief of customer support and chief of personnel readiness for the 72nd Mission Support Squadron before leaving in 2004.

"Taking command at Tinker is special to me beyond just the opportunity to take command ... it's also because this is where my Air Force career started," the major said in remarks at the Tinker Club.

The career personnel officer's most recent assignment was as a student at the Air Command and Staff College in Maxwell, Ala. Prior to that, she served as the Combat Air Force Development team adviser and then the Air Combat Command Commander's Action Group while at Langley AFB, Va.

Major Schilling has deployed three times in support of operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom. She served as personnel support for the contingency operations chief; director of operations for an in-lieu-of squadron; and secretary of the general staff at the NATO Training Mission-Afghanistan.

"I am so happy to be here," Major Schilling said at the ceremony. "You have a reputation of professionalism and excellence, and I'm honored to be joining your team.

"As General Poore mentioned this morning, what you do matters," the major continued. "It matters especially now in an environment of constrained resources and uncertainty. I look forward to learning from you as we work together to continue the legacy that is the 5th MRS."

The 40-member 5th MRS is one of five regional squadrons. The 5th MRS identifies and makes recommendations on total force manpower requirements for Air Force Materiel Command, including in the areas of acquisition and sustainment, logistics readiness and contracting.
