Sixty state, federal and local law enforcement officers recently got together for a shootout at the Tinker AFB firing range.

Twelve law enforcement organizations participated in the 17th annual Law Enforcement Pistol Competition, sponsored by Tinker's Air Force Office of Special Investigations, Detachment 114.

Five-member teams competed June 13 by shooting static targets at various distances. The FBI won for the second year in a row. An eastern Oklahoma County team consisting of members of the Choctaw and Nicoma Park Police Departments finished second, followed by the Oklahoma City Police Department.

The competition is a way for the Office of Special Investigations to maintain connections with Oklahoma law enforcement agencies, said OSI Special Agent Bryan Trulson. Investigators often work with other policing agencies to investigate crimes involving military members from all services.

"To do what we're supposed to do for the Air Force, most of the time it takes us off base," he said. "In order to do that, we need to have relationships with people outside of the installation. This is a formal liaison event that helps us do just that.

"Because of events like this, they will actually know who we are since we don't have a TV show like 'NCIS.' It kind of greases those wheels."

Competitors also included the Drug Enforcement Agency, Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics, the Internal Revenue Service, U.S Probation and Parole, the U.S Bureau of Prisons and the U.S. Marshals Service.

The AFOSI also has detachments at Vance and Altus Air Force Bases.
