Strategic Communications Wing ONE, also known as Take Charge and Move Out (TACAMO), recognized its Sailors during its quarterly awards ceremony.

The recipients received their awards at the 61st TACAMO Community Council Luncheon, held June 3 at the Tinker Club.

At the luncheon, Master Chief Kurt Schweiger, the Maintenance Master Chief for Strategic Communications Wing ONE served as the guest speaker. Master Chief Schweiger tied his remarks to the 72nd anniversary of the Battle of Midway. The largest naval battle in history, the Battle of Midway was the turning point for the war in the Pacific.

According to Master Chief Schweiger, the Japanese surprise attack was thwarted by superior American communications and intelligence. These key elements allowed the U.S. Pacific Fleet commander, Admiral Chester Nimitz, to ambush the Japanese fleet and inflict irrecoverable damage.

Capt. Heather Cole, commander of Strategic Communications Wing ONE and Task Force 124, said that "the Battle of Midway's significance serves to remind the men and women of TACAMO that the Navy continues to rely on its superior communications."
