Work under way on Tinker car wash Published Jan. 8, 2014 By Mike W. Ray Tinker Public Affairs TINKER AIR FORCE BASE, Okla. -- Construction on the new car wash just north of the Tinker Auto Hobby shop, Bldg. 6002, is under way but behind schedule because of the recent inclement weather. The metal framework for the two-bay facility has been erected, and the brick sides will soon be constructed. Additional work will include installation of the water-spraying equipment and an oil/water separator. Completion is projected for late February, according to Lynsy Carrell of the 72nd Force Support Squadron/Facilities. The new car wash will have an automated, drive-through bay and a self-service bay. When it's operational, the car wash can be activated by credit-card as well as coins, said mechanic Jeff Schoenberger of the 72 FSS/Community Services. The new car wash is being developed on the site of the old two-bay, self-serve facility that was closed Sept. 3 last year and was torn down. The old car wash was built in the 1970s, records indicate.
