The 72nd Air Base Wing Legal Office is modifying its hours to better accommodate its active duty, retiree and dependent clients.

Starting Nov. 5, the legal office will offer legal assistance from 8:30 to 11 a.m. on Mondays and Thursdays, and 1 to 3:30 p.m. on Wednesdays. The office offers its clients legal services including writing a will, living will, powers of attorney, contracts, estate law and accident law. Services are free. Powers of attorney and notary services are available 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Wednesday and Friday, and from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Thursdays.

"We have a very robust service here," said Capt. John Fuentes, chief of Legal Assistance. "Really the question is what can't we do? I usually tell people if you feel more comfortable with a lawyer or a second set of eyes looking at a problem, come on in ... everyone in this office is really good at looking at the whole picture when approaching a legal issue, not just focusing on a statute."

Bound by Air Force Instruction, the legal office cannot advise on criminal defense matters or personal businesses. Additionally, the legal office cannot draft or review real estate sale or closing documents, separation agreements, divorce decrees or trusts.

In the past year, office personnel have aided more than 2,600 clients. Captain Fuentes said Airmen Basic through Senior Airmen and retirees make up the majority of clients.
"It's very rewarding to do legal assistance and help people with very real problems," Captain Fuentes said. "For a couple of hours a week, we get to step outside of our normal duties and just help the Airmen. Other than courts-martial it's one of the only opportunities where we see people on the base and really get to help out."
