Members of the Tinker Energy Team, part of the 72nd Air Base Wing Civil Engineering Directorate and Oklahoma City Air Logistics Complex, recently received a Wildcatter Team Award from 72nd ABW Commander Col. Christopher Azzano.

This small but dedicated team of only six full-time employees continues to meet and exceed Air Force expectations with regards to energy conservation-focused efforts across Tinker Air Force Base. The team develops and manages numerous projects that will continue to improve Tinker's efforts toward becoming more sustainable. The Energy Team's $91 million steam decentralization project designed to reduce Tinker's energy consumption by 14 percent is the largest awarded performance contract in the Air Force.

In addition, the Energy Team is responsible for 10 other Air Force funded projects currently under construction and four new utility energy service contracts totaling $75 million. This represents a grand total of $166 million worth of projects, which are expected to save Tinker approximately $15 million annually. The Energy Team is committed to energy conservation through these funded projects, but also demonstrates remarkable commitment beyond traditionally funded opportunities.

By way of example, the Energy Team rectified a nonoperational set of utility meters, and transformed it into a fully automated data collection system. This system is now able to efficiently and reliably collect, track and bill electrical utility data for conservation purposes.

The Energy Team's prominence is reflected in its involvement with the Secretary of the Air Force Staff's energy pilot project, as well as in its high visibility partnerships, including those with the State of Oklahoma government officials, and with the local utility, Oklahoma Gas & Electric.

The Energy Team is capable of managing multiple, high profile projects, firmly building a notable reputation for going above and beyond.
