Tinker Combined Federal Campaign kicks off Oct. 1 Published Sept. 26, 2013 By Brandice J. O'Brien Tinker Public Affairs TINKER AIR FORCE BASE, Okla. -- "We can make a difference;" maybe a $1.8-million difference. It's that time of year again. The Combined Federal Campaign fundraiser kickoff is just around the corner. Beginning Oct. 1, Tinker military members and civilians can donate to CFC-approved charities. With 2,000 local, national and international charities to choose from, officials said they hope Tinker makes its goal of $1.8 million raised. "If we, everyone on base, all just gave up one cup of coffee a week, we could actually support every organization out there that needs help," said Natalie Torres-Jenne, CFC Loaned executive. "It would help immensely." Michael Slack, CFC director, agreed. "These charities don't help some unknown person in the community. These charities are working with people who live on this base, your friends, co-workers, neighbors, and maybe yourself," he said. "There's 100 percent market share and when you make an investment in one these charities, you're really making an investment for a better community to live and work in." Mr. Slack said CFC is the only authorized workplace giving campaign for federal employees. Through the two-and-a-half-month fundraiser, which concludes Dec. 15, donors can give through a payroll deduction. While thousands of charities apply to be a part of the CFC, not all of them make into the program. The chosen ones have been vetted and have included documents such as financial statements with income thresholds. They have been reviewed and approved. There are roughly 200 local charities in the 16-county area of Central Oklahoma's CFC, which includes Oklahoma City, Stillwater, and Enid. Each charity has a designation code and pledges can be made through a paper pledge card or electronically through "my pay." If donating, a minimum $2 per pay period per charity is required. Last year, Central Oklahoma CFC, which includes Tinker, raised $3.2 million and is the 14th largest CFC worldwide. For more information about the fundraiser or how to donate, call Mr. Stack at 523-3548, or Team Tinker CFC Coordinator Randy Hibbs at 739-2219. A CFC-sponsored pancake flip breakfast will be held from 7 to 9 a.m. on Oct. 3 at Bldgs. 460 and 3001. Breakfasts are free with CFC donation.
