As the anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks approaches, members of Team Tinker have an opportunity to honor and remember the lives that were lost and the events that forever changed our nation.

There will be a 12-hour 9/11 vigil beginning 7:46 a.m. on Sept. 11 and ending that night at 7:46 p.m. The significance of the 7:46 a.m. starting time coincides with the first plane, Flight 11, flying into the World Trade Center's North Tower at 8:46 a.m. EST. The vigil's location is the flag pole across from the Tinker Exchange with shifts occurring in 30 minute increments on the 15th and 45th minute of every hour.

Vigil organizers are looking to fill four-person shifts during the 12-hour vigil: three individuals to stand watch at the flag pole with a fourth individual to perform safety monitor duties.

The first four guard slots -- at 7:46 a.m. Sept. 11 -- have been reserved for Team Tinker's senior leadership and the last four blocks -- at 7:15 p.m. Sept. 11 -- have been reserved for first responders. Following the last shift, closing remarks will be provided.
Those who sign up to stand watch must attend a practice session. The practice sessions are scheduled for 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. on both Sept. 4 and Sept. 5.

The uniform of the day for the vigil will be open collar, short-sleeved blues shirt with ribbons (or service equivalent) for military members and slacks (no jeans) and collared shirt (polo or button-up, tucked in) for civilians and contractors.
