Several dozen military and civilian personnel from Tinker participated in an American Red Cross of Moore disaster relief event recently.

According to Tech. Sgt. Heather Blaylock of the 5th Manpower Requirements Squadron, 81 runners entered either a 5k or 10k run at Tinker. Their entry fees generated $925 that will benefit families who were directly affected by the tornadoes earlier this year. After the run, a health and wellness fair was held at the Gerrity Fitness and Sports Center.

The events were sponsored by the 5th MRS and the Tinker Health and Wellness Center.
Travis Newton was the fastest runner in the 10k men's division, with a time of 39:11; Angela Messing was the winner in the 10k women's division, with a time of 41:36. Jayden Robinson was the winner in the 5k men's division, with a time of 19:15, and Tanya Iwanenko was the winner in the 5k women's division, with a time of 23:11.

A Navy VQ-3 team led by Chief Petty Officer Jose Vaquera recorded the highest participation. The chief said VQ-3 had a formation of nine personnel who ran the 5k, and four or five other Navy personnel ran the 10k route.

"We thank everyone who was a runner or helped with the fair," Sergeant Blaylock said.
